“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion.”
— Henry David Thoreau[3]
It would be negligent of me not to post from one of my favorite American philosophers – Uncle Henry.
good luck jon, look forward to hearing how things are going.
It’s all been very exciting! Hope all is well with you!
I find it interesting that you left Michigan to farm out in Colorado, and I moved to Michigan and am planning a similar project for myself and family. I hope everyone is well and that your project takes flight.
What are you doing in Michigan…. And where?! I thought you were in Kansas.
Took advantage of an opportunity to help SKY Archery become successful under the new ownership. I just moved to Stockbridge from Pinckney this last weekend. Been out here for about a year and a half.
Very cool! How do you like the humidity and clouds! haha. I hope all is going great!

Jon:
I read Henry David Thoreau’s “Walden” in High School which inspired me on my own warped path through this thing we call life. Non-conformist thinking has been ingrained into my soul ever since. You quoted what is probably my favorite passage from Walden. As you and your family build your own dream out on the Eastern plains to escape the insanity of modern “civilization”, always keep in mind Henry’s words of wisdom. May he continue to inspire you on your amazing journey to build your own cabin on the edge of your own Walden pond.
Best Wishes!
Very nice Thank you! I’m sure you know that quote rings pretty true with me as well. Not sure the JAZ Farm will have the nice lush woods and pond that Thoreau had but it will be a great experiment and playground none-the-less.
Quit being so busy and come out and play!
Have fun in Germany. I want to see pictures!
